A new restaurant, Cerrojo, has opened in Mexico City, specializing in contemporary Mexican cuisine. It is located in the historic center, offering a privileged view of the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Zócalo. During its inauguration, the restaurant was visited by Sandra Cuevas, the city's mayor. The menu features both classic dishes like gorditas with chicharrón and guacamole, as well as more refined options such as beef tenderloin in pink mole. All tortillas are made by hand, and there is also a bar with traditional atoles. Popular dishes include guacamole with premium northern chicharrón for 450 pesos, tetelas stuffed with cochinita pibil for 180 pesos, and tikin xic fish for 590 pesos. The menu also features 'caldo de piedra' (stone soup), which is cooked tableside with hot river stones. For those preferring simpler options, aguachile verde, tuna tostadas, sopes with marrow, and gorditas with chicharrón are available. The restaurant also serves premium cuts of steak, including ribeye, arrachera, picaña, and tomahawk. Prices range from 120 pesos for gorditas to 1,700 pesos for the tomahawk. The restaurant's decor is colonial, with rustic finishes, gray walls, and plants in every corner. It is located at calle Monte de Piedad, 11, piso 1, in the Centro Histórico. It is open daily from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and reservations are not required. The restaurant also has a bar and a space for live artistic performances. Head chef Gerardo A. Pérez stated that the menu has 32 dishes, each inspired by the cuisine of a different Mexican state and suitable for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
